Romans 13:14
14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.
1 John 2:15
15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
Some look at this as if God is saying, “Don’t enjoy anything of the world.” and they decide they just can’t live for God because they would have to give up everything that they love and depend on.
They don’t understand that God wants us to enjoy the best of everything . The best homes, the best cars, the best food, etc.
Look at Solomon, he was the wisest and richest man of his time, yet God was the one who gave him all the best of everything. It was only when Solomon began to put “things” ahead of God that he sinned.
That’s what the word means when it says, “Do not love the world or the things of the world,”
Let’s take a look at how the scripture describes what is sin .
1 John 2:16
For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world
Notice the words, lust, pride;
Desire is not a bad thing as long as we keep God in His rightful place, (First)
Desire becomes lust only when we want something more than wanting to please God.
Anything can be sin if we let it become the passion of our life, the thing that motivates us.
Jer.9:23 Thus says the LORD:
“ Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom,
Let not the mighty man glory in his might,
Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;
24 But let him who glories glory in this,
That he understands and knows Me,
That I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth.
For in these I delight,” says the LORD.
