Whatever It Takes

Lk13:1-9, Then Jesus told a story. "A man had a fig tree," he said. "It had been planted in his vineyard. When he went to look for fruit on it, he didn't find any. 7 So he went to the man who took care of the vineyard. He said, 'For three years now I've been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree. But I haven't found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?'

8 " 'Sir,' the man replied, 'leave it alone for one more year. I'll dig around it and feed it. 9 If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.' "

Most of us who have, (or have had) children want to see them become something productive, even if it means taking something away from them or threatening them with punishment if they don’t work toward that goal. When God made us He made us, “in His likeness”, and He wants us, as His children, to be productive and prosperous in this life.

I believe that the reason that God called David, “A man after God’s own heart” was because David, deep down inside wanted to please God at all costs. David was quick to repent and return to God when he did wrong. Today’s scripture shows us that God ‘s threats toward us are because He wants us to be the very best.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
New King James Version

God says and does things because He, (like us) wants the very best for us.

Sometimes, we wonder why does God allow something to happen in our life? Look down deep inside and you may find the answer.

I know about this because in the last five years I have had to walk that road and learn some very hard lessons. The end result has been, “God knows what’s best for us and will do whatever it takes to get us there.”

Proverbs 3:12
12 For whom the LORD loves He corrects,
Just as a father the son in whom he delights.
